Nicole's Birthday Surprise

Nicole's birthday was a week and a half ago. I'm a little slow on the blog scene lately. Anyway, the only thing that Nicole wanted for her birthday this year was to go shopping with her mom and to have a day off. When Barb was in town for Andrew's birthday, it was decided that she would not be coming up for Nicole's birthday in October. Barb called me sometime in early September and asked if Nicole would still want her to come for her birthday. I told her "Absolutely!!!" So we set things in motion to give Nicole the ultimate birthday surprise. My main job was to keep Nicole from going to AZ and from knowing that her mom was coming here. Let me tell you, that was not an easy thing to do. Nicole kept her hopes alive that somehow she would be able to see her mom for her birthday. Even when Barb sent a birthday card, she was hoping it had a flight itinerary. On Nicole's birthday she got $100 from her mom, $20 from her sister, Trish, and from me $100 cash, a day off that she would not have to take care of Andrew at all, and a one night stay at a hotel.

So Nicole was grateful for what she got, but she was very disappointed that her mom wasn't there. She wasn't too happy about me getting a hotel in Park City. She didn't want to go stay somewhere by herself and go shopping by herself. She was so upset that she cried for almost 2 hours that night. It was killing me because I knew that everything was going to be great, but I couldn't tell her that. I just kept telling her to trust me.

Barb flew in on October 23rd, and was supposed to be at our apartment around 9:45pm. I was getting antsy because Nicole kept asking me what I was thinking--I couldn't tell her! Anyway, I wanted to see Nicole's reaction, so I went to take out the garbage and Barb arrived. I stood behind Barb as she knocked on the door. I had the video camera going when Nicole came to the door. I would put it on here, but it's pretty much a lot of crying--and Nicole called me a jerk. I'm sure it was said with love. Anyway make sure that you read her blog about her birthday.
